Anders Antonsen Wins Historic China Masters Title
China Masters : Anders Antonsen made history by becoming the first Danish player to win the men’s singles title at the China Masters since the tournament began in 2005. In the 2024 BWF Super 750 men’s singles final, Antonsen ranked World No. 3, faced Indonesia’s World No. 6 Jonatan Christie. Both players were aiming for their first title at this event, but Antonsen triumphed, winning 21-15, 21-13, and breaking his two-match losing streak against Christie. This marked his fourth victory in their rivalry, out of 10 encounters.
This victory was Antonsen’s fifth title of the year, following his wins at the Malaysia Open, Denmark Open, Indonesia Masters, and the European Championships. It was also his second title in China, after his success at the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou.
For Jonatan, this defeat prevented him from becoming the second Indonesian men’s singles player to win the China Masters since Sony Dwi Kuncoro’s victory in 2006. It also halted his hopes of securing his third title of the year.
China Masters : In the men’s doubles final, South Korean duo Seo Seung Jae and Jin Yong, a newly formed pair, won the China Masters Super 750 title. Despite being ranked World No. 263, they defeated Indonesia’s World No. 13 pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Mohammad Reza Isfahani, with a 21-16, 21-16 victory, claiming their first title together. Along the way, they beat several strong teams, including former World No. 1 Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia, Japan’s former world champions Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi, and India’s former World No. 1 pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.
Seo, who won the World Championship the previous year with his former partner Kang Min Hyuk (currently serving in the military), teamed up with Jin Yong just last week for the Kumamoto Super 500 tournament, where they reached the quarterfinals. This victory ended an eight-year drought for South Korean men’s doubles at the China Masters, with the last Korean pair to win the title being Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong.
