BJP secures enough seats to establish government in Arunachal Pradesh, surpasses majority threshold

The Bhartiya Janata Party has achieved victory in Arunachal Pradesh by surpassing the halfway mark of 30 seats out of 60 in the state’s assembly. By Sunday afternoon, the saffron party had secured a majority with 31 seats. However, the counting process for the remaining seats is still ongoing. Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated BJP leaders as the party headed towards a significant win.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh holds an advantage, having secured 10 seats uncontested out of the total 60. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein have already secured victory in their respective constituencies.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, BJP won 41 seats in Arunachal Pradesh, followed by Janata Dal (United) with seven, the National People’s Party (NPP) with five, the Congress with four, and the Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) with one. Additionally, two independents also won seats. All except one Congress MLA, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, have joined the BJP.

In the 2024 Assembly Election, Arunachal Pradesh saw a voter turnout of 82.95%, a slight increase from the 82.17% recorded during the 2019 Assembly Election.
