Four Additional Players Withdraw from Wimbledon 2024

Four Additional Players Withdraw from Wimbledon 2024

Excitement is high in the tennis world as Wimbledon 2024 begins on Monday. Many top players are competing, including last year’s women’s champion Marketa Vondrousova and 2024 Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner. Notable first-round matches include Iga Swiatek vs. Sofia Kenin, one of the top five women’s matches. However, there have been additional withdrawals from the tournament. Previously, LWOT reported on four players who withdrew, and this article highlights four more players who have opted out and their replacements in the draw.

Four More Players Withdraw From Wimbledon 2024

Which Players Have Withdrawn?

Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the first to withdraw, is suffering from a viral infection and couldn’t recover in time. It’s unfortunate for her, as she was in good form, reaching the fourth round of the French Open and the semifinals on grass in Birmingham.

Corentin Moutet, the second withdrawal, has been dealing with a bone bruise since the clay-court season. He decided not to play at Wimbledon after consulting his doctor, aiming to be fit for the Olympic Games at Roland Garros in late July.

Dominik Koepfer also withdrew, likely due to a left ankle injury that caused him to skip the Eastbourne International. An official reason hasn’t been given, but this injury is the probable cause.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is the last to withdraw, likely for a similar reason as Koepfer. Although no official statement has been made, he missed the Eastbourne event, suggesting the same issue is keeping him from Wimbledon.

Who Replaces Those Four Players In The Draw?

Olga Danilovic replaces Cocciaretto. Despite losing in qualifying, the Serbian showed her talent by reaching the fourth round at the French Open, beating Miami Open champion Danielle Collins. She will face Anca Todoni in the first round.

James Duckworth takes Moutet’s spot. The Australian lost in the final qualifying round but gets another chance at Wimbledon, facing compatriot Alex de Minaur in the first round.

Luca Van Assche enters the draw due to Koepfer’s withdrawal. Although he lost in qualifying, Van Assche is talented and will play Italian veteran Fabio Fognini in the first round.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard replaces Davidovich Fokina. Despite a close loss in the final qualifying round, his powerful serve is a threat on grass, and he will challenge Sebastian Korda in the first round.
