IIT-Delhi Launches Its First International Campus in Abu Dhabi
IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi has officially opened in the UAE capital, marking the first international campus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology. The inauguration, attended by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, was highlighted by the establishment of strategic partnerships with prominent Abu Dhabi universities, including Khalifa University, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and Zayed University.
These collaborations aim to enhance joint research, academic programs, and facilitate student and faculty exchanges. Notably, the partnership with Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi will focus on joint research, postgraduate exchanges, and scientific seminars, while Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence will collaborate on research projects, offer seed grants, and provide internships.
Sheikh Khaled emphasized that the new IIT-Delhi campus represents a significant milestone in Abu Dhabi’s ambition to become a global leader in research and development. He also observed various agreements made between the new campus and several leading local universities.
IIT Delhi, part of a network of 23 esteemed institutes in India, is known for producing highly skilled engineers, entrepreneurs, and innovators, often compared to MIT and Harvard in the U.S. Sheikh Khaled was given a tour of the campus, which offers diverse programs in fields such as energy, engineering, and computer science.
The establishment of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi was formalized through an agreement between the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, IIT Delhi, and India’s Ministry of Education, and was endorsed by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2023.
